If you have seen Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone then I think it is safe to say that you won’t get any surprises watching Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. It’s more of the same.

I’ve read all the books and at this point I can say with confidence the books are a lot better than the movies, but that is usually the case and shouldn’t take away from the fact that Chamber of Secrets is a good movie and pretty entertaining for the most part.

The only parts of Chamber of Secrets that really grated on my nerves were all the scenes with Lucius Malfoy, and his gay little son Draco. They are just a little too bad. Bad guys being bad guys for the sake of pointless conflict usually sucks and this is no exception. (It works a little better if the bad guys have reasons for what they do, even if they are crazy.) This fault is just being mirrored from the book though, so it’s more a limitation of the source material than anything. I think Snape is a better bad guy than the Malfoys. If only we could hear him deliver the line, “You ask for miracles? I give you the F… B… I.” I also had a problem with the retarded house elf Dobby. I was getting a little too much of the Jar Jar feeling every time he was on the screen. If any character in a movie gives you a Jar Jar feeling I’d say cut him or minimize his lines and screen time.

The real question is J.K. Rowling going to finish the rest of this series before I die? If she does are they really going to make seven of these films? By that time will I give a rats ass? These are all legitimate questions that have no answers at this time.
