The Legend of Bagger Vance

Some Things Can't Be Learned. They Must Be Remembered.

Randolph Carter

Plot: Promising golfer goes to war and loses his swing. Proverb spewing drifter caddie black man helps him find it again.

Commentary: Having just finished Steven Pressfield’s historical novel “Gates of Fire” about the Spartan involvement at the Battle of Thermopylae, I was surprised to learn that Pressfield was also the author of a little
more known work, “The Legend of Bagger Vance.” Thus I made the mistake of thinking he must have had something to do with the making of the film. Unfortunately for me, he didn’t. I needlessly suffered through 2 hours of made for TV style crap. Do not waste your time with this film.

And “Gates of Fire” was a most excellent read. Damn.

More appropriate title: The Legend of Baggage Vance

Cringe-o-meter: (8 out of 10; one long cringe actually)

Recommended for: people who enjoy made for TV movies.
